Italotreno - buying tickets on the official website

The official website www.ItaloTreno.it has versions in 2 languages: English and Italian. Unfortunately, there is no site in Russian, but there is this article that will help all our readers to understand the nuances of buying tickets for the best trains in Italy.

Italotreno is a private company, and, unlike the wooden site Trenitalia.com, italo is much more convenient to register and buy tickets. The trains themselves are also very comfortable, and when planning a trip between the big cities of Italy, I always first check tickets for ItaloTreno, and then go to Trenitalia.

Where to go

ItaloTreno high-speed trains run on the route Turin-Milan-Reggio Emilia-Bologna-Florence-Rome-Naples-Salerno with branching in Bologna to Padua and Venice. From Rome to Milan with an average speed of 250-300 km / h, the train travels non-stop in just 2 hours 50 minutes. For comparison, by car, this distance of almost 600 km can be covered at best in 6-7 hours, and by bus it takes about 8 hours to go at all.

We choose the appropriate option, for example, at 10:15 in the morning to sleep, have breakfast, and at 14:00 to arrive in Venice and just check into the hotel.

We click on the bird in the appropriate version and here you need to select the class of the car, about which I told you in the video at the top of the page:

  1. Smart
  2. Comfort
  3. Prima
  4. Club executive

Choose the option that suits your comfort and price, press CONTINUE.

Since you are already registered on the site, the data from your profile will be added automatically.

Fill in the Name, Surname and mail of the second passenger. Press PROCEED TO CHECKOUT.

Before payment, we check once again the dates, time, if you want to replace something, then press MODIFY TIMETABLES AND FARES - CHANGE THE SCHEDULE AND RATE. Please note that in this example, the system automatically assigned 9 wagons (Coach 9) and seats (Seat) of 49.50. You cannot change them, because we take tickets at the last moment.

If you select a car class Prima, then the option to select a place to appear.

Of course, buying a ticket for 1-2 weeks there will be much more options for choosing a seat in the car.

Choose a payment method, for example, Credit Card, enter the card details and press PURSHASE (PAYMENT).

Discounts and promotions

I am sure you noticed in the last section the very attractive price of a ticket from Rome to Venice for only 29.90 euros, which was available when buying for a week, but this is not the limit.

Watch the video how the first class car (Club Executive) looks like:

When planning a trip in advance and booking a ticket for several months (sometimes enough for 2-3 weeks), it’s quite possible to buy a ticket, for example from Rome to Milan for 19.90 euros, and from Venice to Rome for only 9.9 euros - tested on my own experience. The table below shows the best deals - the cheapest ticket prices.

Also, if you are registered on the site, you will regularly receive offers about such promotions. There are not many tickets like this, I found the nearest price of 9.9 euros on April 6 (I searched on January 25).

The price of 9.90 euros per ticket from Rome to Venice is available only in the Low Cost offer and their number is limited. This ticket cannot be returned, but even if your plans suddenly change, then the losses will be minimal. As you can see, the rest of the offers start from 39.90 euros, and in the high season, when everyone travels, on the day of the trip even places in Smart, if at all, will cost 74.90 euros at the same level of comfort.

Before searching for a ticket, I always go to the official ItaloTreno group on Facebook, where they post promotional codes for certain dates. This method saved me up to 50% of the ticket price several times, but still the most proven option is to simply buy a ticket in advance. Also, letters with promotions and discounts regularly come to my mail, look like this.

In this first minute video, I show in detail how the prices differ when buying online and in fact at the station:

How to compost a ticket

E-ticket does not need to be printed or composted. Friends, we are already in the 21st century. For travel it is enough to show the reservation code.

  • Watch the video how simple it is.

How to pass or change tickets

If your ticket is not purchased at Low Cost, then you can change it. To do this, go to the trip management page, enter your first name, last name and booking code.

If you are registered on the site, you can find your ticket and change it in your account. You can change the ticket a maximum of 3 minutes before departure, however, only the most expensive options will probably remain.

Tips and conclusions

  1. Buy tickets only on the official website of Italotreno.it
  2. Planning a trip in advance is much more profitable plus there is the possibility of choosing seats in the car
  3. Italotreno is perfect for exploring big cities, especially if this is your first time in Italy and want to see the maximum.
  4. ItaloTreno is cooler, more comfortable, more modern and at least no more expensive than the old Trenitalia.

If this instruction helped you, after the trip, please do not be too lazy to share your experience and feedback under the article. If you have any questions about ticketing, then feel free to ask.
